Our Bureau

Hyderabad , June 7

WITH the southwest monsoon delayed, the State Government will once again resort to cloud seeding operations in 10 rain shadow districts from June 15.

The Chief Minister, Dr Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, directed officials to launch operations in Anantapur from June 15 and Ranga Reddy from June 20. He was chairing a review meeting on Monday.

Two radars will be installed at the proposed sites in Anantapur and Ibrahimpatnam in Ranga Reddy district. The duration of the cloud seeding programme is be 123 days and covers the entire monsoon season till October 10.

Three aircraft will be pressed into service for the purpose. Cloud seeding involves the use of silver chloride and silver bromide/iodide, which help increase the amount of precipitation from rain-bearing clouds. The State had carried out the exercise extensively during the last monsoon season and claimed good success.

The Chief Minister agreed to take up the issue of setting up of a permanent radar station in Hyderabad with the Planning Commission.
