Load testing tech for cranes

Our Bureau

BANGALORE: Fafeco Engineers Pvt Ltd, which manufactures cranes and material-handling equipment, is introducing a load testing technology from its partner Water Weights, a division of IMES Ltd of the UK.

Using water weights, which are light-weight, proof load bags made of specially developed PVC-coated polyester bags, the technology replaces solid weights for all forms of testing, reducing transportation, handling and costs. Load testing is critical for cranes and material-handling equipment at the time of installation and commissioning at the project sites. The equipment has to stand the test of its capability to carry the load to ensure that the capacities to handle maximum loads are not affected by use over time, said Mr Ravi Malani, Director, Fafeco Engineers.

Mr Malani said oil sector companies, power utilities and ports, which have cranes and material-handling equipment, would be the users of the technology. ONGC has shown a keen interest, he added.Fafeco has struck a partnership with Water Weights for marketing the technology with options of outright purchase or rental use, Mr Malani said.
