Maharashtra Industry & Economy - Power Maharashtra seeking power from NTPC's Mauda project Our Bureau
Mumbai , June 29 MAHARASHTRA is attempting to get power from the Mauda Power Project, Vidarbha, which is being set up by the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC). The power generation is dependent on the Gosikhurd Dam, currently under construction. "We are trying to get Rs 500 crore-Rs 700 crore from the Union Government for the completion of the dam," said Mr Dilip Walse Patil, Energy Minister, Maharashtra, addressing the media on Wednesday. The dam, the foundation stone for which was laid in 1988, is estimated to cost about Rs 2,091 crore. It was conceived to provide irrigation facilities for over 10 lakh acres of land, besides solving the drinking water problem of thousands of villages and developing the East Vidarbha region. Meanwhile, the State Government has also announced a new load-shedding schedule for the State. Informing about the schedule, Mr Sanjay Bhatia, Managing Director, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd, said that areas with high transmission and distribution (T&D) losses would suffer more load shedding. The whole State has been divided into four categories depending on the T&D losses. Category A is 25 per cent or less T&D losses, Category B - 25-35 per cent, Category C - 35-50 per cent and Category D (50 per cent and above). Category A will have load shedding ranging from one to five hours, while the others will have load shedding of two to eight hours.
