Hyderabad , July 10 AN alert railway track patrolman on the Secunderabad-Khazipet section has saved hundreds of lives of passengers travelling in the Godavari Express on Saturday night. Mr Bhikya Suryam, who has been deployed by the South Central Railway (SCR) officials for patrolling following heavy rains, had noticed water overflowing on the track between Ghanpur and Nashkal stations. Noticing the Godavari Express approaching the damaged track, Mr Suryam ran towards it, blasted a detonator to attract the attention of the driver. Alerted by the warning, the driver, Mr S.K. Sinha, applied brakes and stopped the train well ahead of the damaged spot. On getting information, railway engineers rushed to the spot and found that a track stretch of 180 metres was damaged. As many as 1,000 railway workers were deployed to restore the track.
