Move to shift part of jewellery trade to interior Maharashtra

SENIOR officials of the Department of Industry, Maharashtra Government, MIDC, SEEPZ and representatives of diamond and jewellery manufacturers, traders and exporters are likely to meet shortly to discuss the possibilities of shifting a part of the trade to interior parts of the State, said Mr Jayant Patil, the State Finance Minister.Inaugurating a four-day exhibition-cum-seminar, AABHA 2005, organised by the Gems and Jewellery Machinery and Accessories Association (GJMAA) here, Mr Patil said the meeting would be called after the Assembly session ended."The State Government in general, and the Industry Ministry in particular, have shown interest towards generating infrastructure facilities and employment opportunities in interior Maharashtra," Mr Patil told presspersons.In his welcome speech, Mr Nickunj Shah, convenor, GJMAA, said the Association wascommitted to bringing in the latest machinery as well as technology for the manufacture of world-class jewellery.
