THE Southern India Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) has signed memorandums of understanding with four regional chambers in South Africa.

This was done during the visit of an eight-member delegation from the chamber to South Africa from July 4 to 7, to explore opportunities for business and to further mutual cooperation.

Mr R. Veeramani, President, SICCI, said that one of the first steps towards increasing trade between South Africa and South India would be to establish a consular office in Chennai and operate a direct flight to a South African gateway.

Mr Veeramani said that it was decided to develop a Chennai-Durban Cultural Forum. He said that at the meetings with the chambers, it was felt that Chennai and Durban should become twin cities, as many of the ethnic Tamils were originally from Chennai.
