Hind Sanitary plant expansion by year-end

Visakhapatnam , Aug. 12

THE expansion of the Hindustan Sanitaryware plant at Bibinagar near Hyderabad will be completed by December. It will then become the largest such unit at a single location in Asia, according to Mr Sanjay Kalra, Head (sales).

At a press meet here, after opening the company's boutique, Mr Kalra said 6,000 tonnes per annum would be added to the current capacity of the Bibinagar plant (12,000 tonnes), at a cost of Rs 45 crore. "We are confident the expansion will be completed by that time," he said.

He said the company, which achieved a turnover of Rs 330 crore last year, was aiming at a 30-per cent growth during the current financial year. Barring tiles, the company provides all bathroom products; it diversified into kitchenware too recently, he said. He said some of the kitchenware was being outsourced. The company has 50 boutiques across the country; three of them are in Andhra Pradesh. More will come up in the future, said Mr Kalra.

"The company is increasing the product range; during the past 18 months fifty new products have been added, with emphasis on eco-friendly products," he said.

Mr Kalra said, with a 41-per cent share, his company was the market leader, along with Parry, and the other companies accounted for the rest.

He said the organised market for sanitaryware was around Rs 400 crore, while the unorganised sector was Rs 500 crore. "So, we have introduced a low-end product, Raasi, to compete with the unorganised players,'' he said.

Mr Kalra said his company had tied up with two major German companies - Sanitech group and Growhe - to increase its market share and improve quality.
