Society & Development DRL launches plan for underprivileged youth Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Aug. 15 DR REDDY'S Foundation (DRF), the corporate social responsibility arm of pharma major Dr Reddy's Laboratories Ltd, has launched a new programme `Learning Studio' towards ensuring upward career mobility and development for the alumni of LABS spread across the country. The LABS (Livelihood Advancement Business School) is a flagship programme of DRF for upliftment of the underprivileged youth by providing them entry-level job opportunities through various skills based training programmes. The new programme is mostly aimed at 36,000-odd LABS alumni spread over several States, the DRF Founder and Chairman, Dr K. Anji Reddy, said. Addressing a gathering of students after launching the new programme here on Monday, Dr Reddy said the Learning Studio would create e-learning modules for underprivileged youth in the age group of 13-25 years for learning academic and vocational skills at their own pace through onsite and offsite facilitation, making anytime learning a reality. According to the DRF Trustee, Mr Satish Reddy, the new programme with advanced technology of VSAT connectivity also helps the teachers of Bridge schools and facilitators of LABS to get trained in academic and vocational skill programmes. It also provides the learners with employer recognised competency and skill-based certificates to enhance employability in the new economy. Dr Anji Reddy said the Learning Studio would be piloted in Andhra Pradesh with the help of already existing Government partnerships. In the later stage, it would be spread across the country both in rural and urban areas. The DRF has set a target of creating 10 lakh jobs before 2010, he said
