Sahara Computers buys distribution co

SAHARA Computers and Electronics Ltd (SCEL) on Wednesday announced that it had signed an MoU for the acquisition of the IT distribution company - SES Technologies Ltd - to help expand its penetration in India.

SES shall continue to trade under its current name and style.

Sahara Computers and Electronics Ltd is a joint venture partnership between the South African IT major Sahara Computers (Pty) Ltd and Sahara India Pariwar. "This investment comes close on the heels of the initial investment in SCEL, underlining the faith the promoters of Sahara Computers (Pty) Ltd have in the growing Indian market. The acquisition is important for SCEL in that it allows SCEL to leverage the wide range of vendor agencies, infrastructure, skilled and experienced sales and support staff across the country and an infrastructure that has allowed SES to be the number one fully Indian owned IT distribution company," said a press release.

Mr Geoge Van Der Merwe, Chief Operating Officer, Sahara Computers and Electronics Ltd, said, "This acquisition will enhance our footprint across the country while adding value to the existing presence in the country today. ."

According to Mr Mukesh Kalmadi, Managing Director, SES Technologies Ltd, "We have chosen to align with Sahara Computers and Electronics as we share common business values and respect the highly successful formula that Sahara Computers has been able to achieve in all their international operations."

Starting out in 1992 as an Intel distributor, SES Technologies today has a network of more than 5,000 channel partners and a continued association with major international vendors. It has two manufacturing units in Pondicherry.

SCEL recently entered the Indian market with the launch of desktops, laptops and servers. It has also announced its foray into the lifestyle segment, leveraging on its international expertise.

SCEL has deployed more than 800 certified engineers nationally.

SCEL's initial manufacturing plant, based in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, will supply a broad range of information technology products that will include computers, servers, laptops and peripherals through 25 distribution hubs covering all major States in the country.

SCEL's regional offices in Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Lucknow will provide sales and marketing services, apart from a service management centre. Investment Bankers Singhi & Associates Advisors Private Ltd, Delhi, has acted as the sole advisors to the transaction.
