Bangalore , Sept. 15 CONCERN for preserving the image of `Brand Bangalore' clinched the issue with the Government deciding to put the development of infrastructure on the fast track and the representatives of the IT industry also expressing satisfaction on the positive response. While the leaders of the IT industry did not make an announcement, they, however, gave an assurance to reconsider their decision to boycott annual Bangalore IT.in. The Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BCIC) and the Bangalore Forum of IT (BFIT), however, said they would convene a meeting of their respective organisations in the next two days to take a decision. The stand-off between the Government and the IT industry has been haunting Asia's prestigious information technology event slated to begin on November 1. "The talks with the IT industrialists were useful and meaningful about finding solutions to the problems the city is facing, with public and private participation,'' the State Chief Secretary, Mr B.K. Das, told presspersons after the third empowered committee meeting with chiefs of the IT industry here on Thursday. This meeting was held as a precursor to the September 20 meeting between the Chief Minister, Mr N. Dharam Singh, and the IT honchos. Mr Das said it was also agreed at the meeting to take up on a priority basis a new package for development of 19 roads in the Central Business District, Hosur Road and Airport road by January-end. He said the industry had agreed to co-operate and come out with a White Paper on their infrastructure needs on both short and long-term basis in the city by October-end. He said the eight ring roads on the periphery of the city would be completed in the next five years and would become the main roads for the movement of city traffic. The White Paper would be prepared with the help of a consultant to map a long-term strategy to resolve the infrastructure problem. The White Paper would also make suggestions for reforms to improve the governance of the local bodies to benefit from the Central Government's financial assistance under the National Urban Renewal Mission. Mr R.K. Mishra, Vice-President, Flextronics, said the Centre had announced a sum of Rs 3,800 crore under the plan for all States and it was working on the guidelines, setting the tone for reforms in the urban local bodies for extending the assistance. The guidelines were expected to be finalised by the end of October.
