Colossal neglect

Toshali Plaza mansion, constructed by the Orissa Housing Development Corporation in 1998 over an area of 3.19 lakh square feet at a cost of Rs 15.65 crore, resembles a deserted palace in a posh locality of Bhubaneswar. The unoccupied mansion has more than 2 lakh square feet of office space.

The State Government took it over with a view to accommodating its offices but most of the departments and government agencies shunned the building and continue to operate out of private rented buildings.

The State Government pays about Rs 8 crore as rent in the city annually. It has sanctioned Rs 2.18 crore for repair and renovation of the mansion and is taking steps to coerce government departments to shift to the new premises.
