KANBAY International Inc, technology solutions provider for the financial services industry, has embarked on the next phase of growth that would see the company setting up a campus in Chennai, commissioning one at Hyderabad and locating a global learning centre in Pune.

The Managing Director of Kanbay, Mr Cyprian D'Souza, told Business Line that the company which had barely 30 associates in 1995, had grown to about 4,000 in 10 years, and continued to expand at a rapid pace.

"Last year, the company witnessed a growth of about 60 per cent and this financial year, it has projected a growth of about 28 per cent. Kanbay expects to commission its own campus in Hyderabad in the first quarter of 2006. It is in the process of acquiring land at Chennai and would take up work on its campus," he said.

Apart from this, the Pune operations of the company are set for growth. Pune currently hosts about 2,900 people. The company is in the process of commissioning its Global Learning Centre in Pune, which would serve as a hub for its learning activity.

On account of the quiet period ahead of the Q3 numbers, Mr D'Souza refrained from making any announcements with regard to either headcount nor investment numbers. But given the growth witnessed and augmentation of capacity, it plans to add couple of 1,000 people by next year. The company had recorded total revenues of $183.7 million in 2004 and has given a guidance of $235 million for the year 2005.

The Hyderabad campus would have a capacity to host about 4,000 people. "Currently, we operate out of leased premises and expect to move out to the new campus early next year," he said.

Founded in 1989, the US-based Kanbay focuses on financial services vertical and provides solutions through a partnership model. "We plan to set up an insurance centre in Hyderabad", he said.

The Indian operations have become strategic for Kanbay and the overall headcount here is about 80 per cent of the total company workforce. Significantly, more than 50 per cent of the global revenues are contributed by the Indian operations. The company has expanded the role of India operations to cover testing line, user experience and a centre for credit cards, referred to as VisionPlus. So far, he said "the company has invested more than Rs 130 crore in Indian operations."
