Tatra in pact with Russia's Kamaz for trucks, buses

Neha Kaushik

New Delhi , Oct 25

HEAVY duty truckmaker Tatra Trucks India Ltd is all set to foray into the high volume on-road truck and buses segment and has tied up with Kamaz Incorporated, based in the Russian Federation, for the same.

Tatra till now only has a presence in the off-road vehicle segment. According to Mr Rakesh Jinsi, Managing Director Tatra Trucks India Ltd, the two companies have been working together for the past few months for identifying suitable products for the Indian market. This study is likely to be completed in the coming months and the schedule for manufacturing and product launch would be decided thereafter.

"The products would be in the medium and heavy commercial vehicles segment and will be positioned at a premium to similar products in the market," Mr Jinsi said.

Tatra plans to manufacture the vehicles at its plant in Hosur, where it has substantial spare capacity. The Hosur plant currently has installed capacity of 5,000 units.

Tatra is planning to display a range of Kamaz products during the Auto Expo next year.

Kamaz Incorporated is one of the largest truck manufacturers of the Russian Federation, with an installed capacity of more than 300,000 trucks a year. Tatra Trucks, part of the UK-based Vectra Group, has revenues of Rs 100 crore per annum.
