People MphasiS' Jerry Rao joins board of Royal Orchid Our Bureau
Bangalore , Oct. 25 THE Royal Orchid Hotels Ltd, formerly known as the Baljee Group, announced on Tuesday that Mr Jerry Rao, Founder, CEO and Chairman of MphasiS, has joined its Board of Directors. Mr Rao brings to the board expertise in finance and IT. Mr Chander K. Baljee, Chairman and Managing Direct of the Royal Orchid Group said Mr Rao has also invested in the company. He, however, declined to spell out the figure. "Jerry's knowledge and experience will lend a new perspective to our board, and his technology and financial expertise will be helpful in the execution of our business and development strategies," said Mr Baljee said. Speaking on his appointment, Mr Rao said, "I hope that my experience will be an asset as the Group continues to expand." Royal Orchid Group had recently inducted Mr Marsh Malhotra, a director of Café Coffee Day, on its board. Royal Orchid Hotels Ltd currently comprises four hotels Hotel Royal Orchid, Royal Orchid Central and Royal Orchid Harsha in Bangalore, and Royal Orchid Metropole in Mysore. Royal Orchid Star, a luxury resort, will open in Bangalore in 2006. The company plans expansion into other cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Pune and Hyderabad through joint ventures, management contracts, leasing or setting up own properties. To support the expansion plans it will go in for an IPO soon.
