Sourcing exhibition begins in Pune

Pune Dec. 1

, THE three-day Source Enterprise 2005 exhibition, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Western Region, began in Pune on Thursday.

This is the second manufacturing sourcing exhibition and buyer seller meet, the first one being held last year.

The exhibition has multilevel approach where large companies, Government enterprises, Defence, PSUs and SMEs are participating and showcasing products including castings and forgings, plastic and rubber, hydraulics and pneumatics, electrical and electronics and stamping and fabrication.

About 53 companies are participating in the exhibition. Giving details on the exhibition, Mr Rahul Kirloskar, CII Chairman, Pune, said that sourcing plays a key role in the manufacturing sector in the country and in order to be economical, large manufacturers source their requirement of components to subassemblies from the SME sector, which is the backbone of the Indian industry.

"Besides supplying to the domestic manufacturers, SMEs are taking strategic positions in the global market, both as OEMs and replacement suppliers. Companies in India have a special capability to supply high quality components at reasonable prices," he said.

Commenting on the first Source exhibition, he said around 60 exhibitors from large and small medium companies, in source and material handling, had participated and over 400 new vendors had been identified.

More than 20,000 business visitors had walked in during the three days and this year also a similar number is expected.

He said that the exhibition would help the large companies identify Indian suppliers for components to sub assemblies thereby lowering raw material costs, overall cost competitiveness and building a robust supply chain. He added that the exhibition would showcase business opportunities worth more than Rs 10,000 crore, which could be indigenous and thereby reducing the import/ export costs.
