Electricity Act changes cleared

THE Union Cabinet on Thursday gave its approval for the introduction of Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2005.

The amendments in the Electricity Act 2003 will include the provisions that the Centre will also share responsibility for rural electrification.

The Cabinet also gave its approval for the introduction of a Bill in Parliament for amendment in the Central Sales Tax Act 1956, in order to streamline and improve the functioning of the Central Sales Tax Appellate Authority.
