Letters WTO talks
The report "EU proposes deadline for farm subsidies" (Business Line, December 18) is a step forward in the WTO talks. The draft text put forward by the WTO Chief, Mr Pascal Lamy, and Conference Chairman, Mr John Tsang, to bridge the gap between developing and developed countries could be improved upon by negotiations. Also, the problems of Least Developed Countries can be addressed. If the "aim to reach an accord that at least keeps alive the WTO's hopes of securing a draft free trade treaty" is achieved, it may be a great success. India, along with other developing countries, may be able to play a significant role. A. Jacob Sahayam Thiruvananthapuram
