Human Resources Info-Tech - Software Infy to recruit from China campuses Vishwanath Kulkarni
Bangalore , Dec. 19 INFOSYS Technologies Ltd plans to start recruiting from Chinese campuses from February 2006. Infosys currently has some 330 employees in China who have been hired laterally from other companies. "We plan to visit about 7-8 Universities and engineering college campuses in China from February," said Mr Srinath Batni, board member. "The exact number of Chinese graduates that Infosys expects to hire would be known once we assess them." Infosys recently trained some 100 undergraduates from various Chinese Universities at its Global Education Centre in Mysore as part of the MoU between the company and the Chinese Government. About 80 of these students received A+ grades while the rest were assessed at A grade, he said, adding that it indicated the availability of good talent pool in China. Infosys plans to invest $65 million in expanding its Chinese operations over the next five years. The company, which is setting up two new facilities in Hangzhou and Shanghai, plans to ramp up its headcount to 6,000 in China. Meanwhile, the company's ADR on the Nasdaq is on fire, hitting a high in the recent years. The Infy ADR closed at $78.89 on Friday, the highest level since mid-2000, commanding a premium of 21 per cent over the local shares. Analysts attribute the rally in Infosys ADRs mainly to the expectations of better performance in the current quarter and in anticipation of big deals being signed. Meanwhile, Infosys said on Monday that it would increase the headcount of its development centre in Bhubaneshwar to over 4,500 from 1,720 now. The company also plans to invest Rs 100 crore over the next few years, it said in a release. "Tier-2 cities like Bhubaneswar will be the growth engines for the IT industry in India," said Mr N.R. Narayana Murthy, Chairman. "Infosys has taken a lead in this direction by investing more than Rs. 135 crore in Bhubaneswar. We contribute approximately 80 per cent of software exports from the State, making Infosys the largest exporter from the Bhubaneswar STPI," he added.
