New Delhi , Dec. 26

PUBLIC sector power major National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has said it would form a joint venture company to take over two 110 MW power plants in Bihar.

It signed a memorandum of understanding with the Bihar Government and the Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB) in this regard, it informed the stock exchanges.

NTPC will hold 51 per cent equity in the joint venture while the rest will remain with BSEB, the communication said. Both the thermal plants are located in Muzaffarpur district of the eastern State, it said.

Meanwhile, news agencies reporting from Patna said the MoU would include renovation of Kanti thermal power station. The Bihar Chief Minister, Mr Nitish Kumar, said this was an attempt to improve power situation in the power-starved State.
