Liena Fashions, Sri Govindaraja Mills bag quality award

THE Chennai-based garment company, Liena Fashions (India) Pvt Ltd and Sri Govindaraja Mills Ltd from Aruppukottai were adjudged winners in the competition for the best `5-S' practices, the Japanese techniques for industrial house keeping practices for total quality management.

The ABK-AOTS Dosokai's Tamil Nadu Centre, the alumni association of ABK and AOTS Japan, has been organising the competition for the small and medium industries since 1992. This is the first time the competition has been extended to cover the entries from the textile sector. Liena Fashions which collected a total of 724 points in the 1,000-point score, has won the overall winner for the textile industry to claim the inaugural `AOTS-N Damotharan 5s trophy' instituted in the name of the promoter director of the Coimbatore-based Precot Mills Ltd.

In the spinning mills category, the first prize winner Sri Govindaraja Mills Ltd had secured 687 points.

The panel of judges adjudicating the competition entries had chosen Rattha Overseas Company Pvt Ltd from Chennai (with 637 points) for the second prize in the garment category.

In the case of spinning mills category, two spinning mills - Sri Jayajothi Company Ltd from Virudhunagar (629 points) and Coimbatore Polytex Ltd, Coimbatore (628 point) - were declared the joint winners for the second prize.

This is the first time ABK-AOTS Dosokai, Tamil Nadu Centre, the organisers of the `Five-S' competition holding the competition and an exposure on the `5S' practices in the form of a seminar in Coimbatore.
