OIL and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC) would be developing 28 of its small and marginal oilfields on the western seaboard in order to augment its domestic oil production, said Dr Ramashish Rai, General Manager (Production), ONGC, at the Oceantex 2006, an international oil and natural gas conference.
The fields are likely to go online by 2008 and are expected to produce five to eight million tonnes of oil and 15-20 million cubic metres of gas as per current estimates. The assessment of feasibility reports was still on and the fields are likely to get approval by March 2006.
The company would also be setting up a hub-based system, to monitor the small oil field related activities on the seaboard. The hub is expected to commence its operations by 2007, Dr Rai said.
Increasingly domestic oil companies are looking at newer areas to enhance oil production given the phenomenal rise in international oil prices.
ONGC is aggressively looking at newer ways to increase its domestic as well as overseas production.
