Cochin Shipyard to increase training institute capacity

Kochi , Feb. 7

COCHIN Shipyard Ltd has proposed to increase the capacity of its Marine Engineering Training Institute to 180 from 100.

The institute has so far trained 1,175 mechanical engineers, a press release issued here said. Additional hostel facilities have been set up here, which was inaugurated by Mr Susheel Kumar, Joint Secretary, Shipping.

CSL Training Institute offers one year pre-sea training for graduate mechanical engineers and also short-term courses such as Basic Fire Fighting, Elementary First Aid and Advance Fire Fighting. An independent rating agency, CARE, has assessed the capability of the institute as `outstanding' in 2004-05 and 2005-06, the release added.
