Hotel Leela Ventures to sign pact with Kempinski Hotels

Sankar Radhakrishnan

Thiruvananthapuram , Feb. 8

HOTEL Leela Venture Ltd will soon sign a long-term agreement to strengthen its relationship with Geneva-headquartered Kempinski Hotels.

The agreement will cover Hotel Leela Venture's existing hotels in Mumbai, Bangalore and Kovalam in Kerala, and will also cover all new properties being set up by the company, said Mr Peter Leitgeb, President, The Leela Palaces and Resorts.

The `reservation, sales and marketing franchise' with Kempinski will also cover the hotel in Gurgaon, near New Delhi, which Hotel Leela Venture is to manage. The agreement, which will be formally signed during next month's ITB travel exhibition in Berlin, will not apply to the Leela group's resort in Goa, Mr Leitgeb said.

Besides covering marketing and reservations, the agreement will also facilitate co-operation in human resources between the two hotel companies, said Mr Leitgeb. "There will be cross exposure of staff between Leela and Kempinski," he added.

The Leela group's hotels in Mumbai and Bangalore are already affiliated to Kempinski Hotels and use the Kempinski name. Once the agreement is signed, the Kempinski name will be incorporated in the name of the Kovalam property and all new properties of the Leela group, said Mr Leitgeb.
