The Hindu Business Line : Air Sahara strike withdrawn; Normal flights from today

THE three-day agitation by sections of Air Sahara pilots, which led to flights being cancelled and passengers being inconvenienced, was withdrawn on Tuesday night.

"The agitation has been withdrawn and all the pilots will report for work from tomorrow. The airline will operate to its normal schedule from tomorrow," an airline spokesperson said.

While airline officials maintain that there was no agreement with the pilots, the agitating pilots dispute this. "The reservations expressed by the pilots will be kept in mind by the Airline President, Mr Ronojoy Dutta, who is heading the integration team working for merging Air Sahara and Jet Airways. This has been communicated to the pilots," the spokesperson added.

However, pilots indicated that some of their demands including finding a way to ensure that those wanting to take up employment with other airlines do not get bogged down by red tape had been met. Besides, the management is also said to have indicated that it would provide some compensation to those who did not want to take up employment with Jet Airways.

The pilots began the agitation on Sunday seeking protection of their wages and seniority when Air Sahara merges with Jet Airways. Sources indicated that Air Sahara pilots were paid almost Rs 1,00,000 a month more than what is paid to pilots in Jet Airways.
