Global meet on biotech from March 9

A three-day international conference on biotechnology for sustainable agriculture and agro industry would be held here from March 9.
The Agri-Biotech-2006 is being jointly organised by All India Biotech Association, AP-Netherlands Biotechnology Program and Andhra Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation (APIDC).
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Indrasain Reddy, the Chairman of APIDC, said the conference would provide a platform for scientists, farmers and the agri-biotech industry to interact and collaborate on various aspects related to agri biotechnology.
To be inaugurated by the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, the maiden edition would discuss issues like biotechnology for crop improvement, biotechnology for post-harvest technology, animal biotechnology and non-chemical farming.
The conference would make a set of recommendations to the Government, suggesting measures to promote biotechnology for agriculture.
Mr Indrasain Reddy said they had plans to make the conference an annual event.
