Dakshina Kannada credit plan at Rs 1,830 cr

Mangalore , March 30

The credit plan for Dakshina Kannada district for 2006-07 has envisaged a total outlay of Rs 1,830 crore, which is an increase of 26 per cent over the credit plan of Rs 1,451 crore for 2005-06.

The credit plan was prepared by the lead district office of Syndicate Bank — lead bank of Dakshina Kannada district — by consolidating the credit plans of 357 branches of 46 banks operating in the district.

The priority sector credit, with an outlay of Rs 1,362 crore, constitutes 74 per cent of the credit plan. Agriculture sector constitutes 26 per cent with an outlay of Rs 482.81 crore. While small-scale industries and non-farm sectors account for Rs 246.07 crore, other priority sectors account for Rs 633.51 crore. The plan has allocated Rs 468.16 crore for non-priority sector.

According to the plan, the commercial banks in the district contribute 82 per cent of the total credit at Rs 1,496.19 crore.

The Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, Dr H.V. Parswanath, launched the credit plan for 2006-07 at Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat here on Monday.

Welcoming the gathering, Mr K.U. Shanbhag, Deputy General Manager of Syndicate Bank, said the credit plan document would help the bankers and developmental agencies. It will also help in formulating appropriate strategies and in exploiting the potential available in the area, he added.

Mr A. Gopal, Lead District Manager, Syndicate Bank, explained the process involved in preparing the plan.

Rs 11,720-cr business

Prior to the launching of the credit plan, the district consultative committee and the district-level review committee meeting for banking development were held. Mr Shanbhag said the banks in the district have been doing very well. He expressed satisfaction over increase in CD ratio from 52 per cent to 57 per cent.
