Thiruvananthapuram, April 2

The New Age International University of Seborga, Italy, has awarded a Doctorate in Business Management to Mr J. Raj Mohan Pillai, Chairman of Beta Group, the food processing major. Younger brother of late biscuit tycoon M. Rajan Pillai, Mr Raj Mohan Pillai brings to bear a wealth of business management experience gained through two generations, a company spokesman said here. He quoted Mr Pillai as saying that the tiny East Asian country of Vietnam has made large strides in production and processing of cashew nuts and might soon overtake the compatriot Indian industry. An essentially cashew products company, the Beta Group has now diversified into various fruit drinks and exotic nuts such as almonds, dates and pistachios. The company proposes to enter the pharmaceutical and hospitality sectors in future.
