Cricket: 4 cos bid for overseas rights

Our Bureau

Mumbai , April 5

Four companies — Zee Telefilms Ltd, Nimbus, ESPN and Sahara — submitted bids to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the overseas media rights of 25 matches during 2006-2011.

The bids are expected to be opened in Delhi on Thursday.

`Don't consider Sahara'

One of the bidders has protested against the bidding process and has urged the BCCI not to consider the financial bid of Sahara on two counts — delayed bid and unsealed bid.

It claims Sahara submitted its bid after the deadline of 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Besides, financial bid was not sealed.

In a letter to Mr Lalit Modi, Vice-President, BCCI, the dissenting company said, "The idea of this letter is to bring the facts to the notice of the BCCI so that a fair decision gets taken. We believe that the new BCCI administration has conducted the earlier tender processes with complete transparency and fairness. There have been instances in the past, where companies have been disqualified on technical grounds. Keeping these facts in mind, we trust that in all fairness, the Sahara financial bid should not be considered,'' the letter said.

When contacted, Mr Modi said only Zee Telefilms had protested against Sahara's bid. The four bidders have deposited the earnest money of $5 million, he said.
