Wipro begins operations at new tech campus

Hyderabad , April 24

Wipro Technologies, on Monday, commenced operations at its new technology campus near Hyderabad, while laying the foundation stone for another facility here.

The construction of the project at Gopannapally on a 100-acre site is expected to commence by May 2006 and would be ready in about 18 months. It will have a capacity to host about 5,000 people and train around 1,200 people. Wipro already employs more than 6,000 people in the city.

The campus, inaugurated by the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, at Manikonda is spread over a 30-acre site and hosts a learning centre, and has the capability to host over 3,000 employees of the overall 6,000 employed in Hyderabad.

The Wipro Chairman, Mr Azim H. Premji, announced that the company had major expansion plans for Hyderabad while it was keen to begin operations in Visakhapatnam.

Wipro achieved Rs 1,200 crore in exports from Hyderabad in 2005-2006.
