Our Bureau

New Delhi , May 1

Boosted by compact car sales, Maruti Udyog Ltd on Monday reported a 12.9 per cent increase in total sales for April at 43,127 units against 38,190 units in the corresponding month a year ago.

The company's domestic sales in the month were up 12.4 per cent at 41,574 units against 36,972 units in April 2005.

MUL said its exports grew 27.5 per cent at 1,553 units during the month as against 1,218 units.

The company's growth driver remains the A2 segment, which comprises cars like Alto, WagonR, Zen and Swift.

The segment, benefiting the most by the eight per cent cut on excise duty on small cars, grew 26.4 per cent at 28,156 units (22,280 units).
