Mothercare opens fifth store in Bangalore

Our Bureau

Bangalore , May 8

Mothercare PLC of UK has launched its fifth store in the country at Shoppers' Stop, Bangalore. As part of an exclusive franchise agreement with Shoppers' Stop in India, Mothercare products which were hitherto available in the grey market, are available in Shoppers' Stop outlets in Mumbai, Pune and Hyderabad.

"We plan to open over 40 Mothercare stores in the next five years through shop in shops, shops in department stores, standalone high street and mall stores,'' according to Mr Rajiv Nair, Customer Care Associate and Business Head, Mothercare India.

The store has the same design template as the Mothercare stores abroad and offers products such as kidswear, baby furniture and bedding, bathtime and travel products, toys and maternity wear for mothers.

Though there is no study on the size of the babycare market in the country, the organised kidswear market is estimated to be in the range of Rs 1,400-1,500 crore. Mr Nair is, however, upbeat about the demand for international kids' brands.
