Intex plans manufacturing base in Himachal

V. Rishi Kumar

The Baddi facility would be operational by the end of this year.

Hyderabad , June 14

Intex Technologies (India) Ltd, a diversified hardware products company, is set to establish a manufacturing base at Baddi in Himachal Pradesh, and expand its product range.

The President, Mr Ramesh A. Vaswani, said the company has a manufacturing unit in Kashmir for some hardware products and the proposed unit would make home theatre systems, subwoofers and some backward integration products such as transistors.

"We chose Baddi as this offers us a five-year tax incentive and is strategically located.

The facility would be operational by the end of this year, and will be close to manufacturing units of Godrej and Proctor and Gamble," Mr Vaswani said.

Mr Vaswani told Business Line that the New Delhi-based company had last fiscal recorded revenues of Rs 188 crore and expected to hit revenues of Rs 250 core this year.

Growing market

"Intex markets about 250 products in 20 groups. Last year, the foray into personal computers and laptops has been received well. We expect the numbers to grow rapidly this year, particularly driven by increased consumption from Government, education and healthcare,'' he said.

Retail market

"The emergence of the retail market, rising SOHO (small office home office) and growing notebook market offer us immense scope to penetrate into markets hitherto untapped. This is well supported by a huge replacement market," Mr Vaswani said.

The company has partnered with Intel and expects to play a bigger role in the education market, where the demand is poised for quantum leap.
