Thiruvananthapuram , June 15

The Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation (SupplyCo) is planning a mega Rs 1,000-crore sales programme to coincide with the Onam festival season later this year.

The Civil Supplies Minister, Mr C. Divakaran, announced this while addressing a meeting of the district-level officials of the department.

The aim is to elevate the food and civil supplies department to altogether new consumer-friendly levels, the Minister said.

Ration outlets will get transformed into those vending essential goods and grains of assured quality. The public distribution system will not be allowed to rot.

The Minister said he wanted to rid the public distribution system of corruption and inefficiency. The public would like to see that the department and affiliated organisations team up with food and grain producers to form a consortium.

Among those who attended the meeting were Ms Sheela Thomas, who holds charge as Secretary to the department, as also Dr Jacob Thomas, Managing Director, SupplyCo.
