Dainik Bhaskar to enter Punjab

Our Bureau

Mumbai , June 21

The Bhaskar Group is entering Punjab with its flagship Hindi newspaper, Dainik Bhaskar. It has chosen three cities — Amritsar, Jalandhar and Ludhiana — to make its foray into the State.

"Dainik Bhaskar will be the first Hindi newspaper in Amritsar when it is launched in September this year. A week later we will launch the Jalandhar edition, followed by Ludhiana," Mr Girish Agarwal, Director, Bhaskar Group, said.

The company is investing Rs 90 crore for its foray into Punjab, which will be met through a combination of debt and internal accruals.

Dainik Bhaskar is already present in Chandigarh and Haryana. This launch completes the loop, Mr Agarwal said. Punjab, according to him, is an untapped market. The Hindi readership in the State has room to grow. Amritsar, Jalandhar and Ludhiana will feed into other markets of the State.
