Leyland June vehicle sales up 17.3 pc

Ashok Leyland has recorded a 17.3 per cent increase in vehicle sales at 5,751 vehicles in June 2006, up from 4,903 in the corresponding month last year. A press release from the company said that in the medium duty vehicle (MDV) segment, passenger vehicle sales were down 20 per cent to 819 units (1,029 units), and goods vehicle sales were up 35 per cent to 5,804 (4,302). The company sold 428 (1,041) MDV passenger units in the domestic market and exported 407 units (96). MDV goods vehicle sales were 5,284 units (3,797) in the domestic market and 237 (238) in the export market. In the light commercial vehicles segment, 39 vehicles (65) were sold in the domestic market in June, while two vehicles (six) were accounted for by exports. Cumulative sales for the April-June 2006 quarter were up 28 per cent to 17,067 (13,320), said the release.
