The Mumbai city returned to its regular routine as rains eased on Thursday after five days of heavy downpour.
Suburban train services - the lifeline of the city - were restored as floodwaters receded.
Schools and colleges, shut for a couple of days, reopened on Thursday and attendance across offices, factories, shops and malls improved.
The Meteorological Department has forecasted for the next 24 hours spells of rains or showers with a possibility of heavy showers in isolated areas for the city and suburbs.
A weather system, formed in the Bay of Bengal, which could have led to more rains for the city has now moved on.
Medical care
Talking to Business Line, Mr Dadasaheb Shivjatak, Spokesperson, Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai, said that floodwaters have receded from all the areas and there was no report of any untoward incident, he said.
"With the onset of monsoons, there is a possibility of infectious diseases, especially in the slum areas. Our medical teams are monitoring the situation and are providing basic medical care to the slum residents," Mr Shivjatak said.
