GSM operators add 32 lakh users in June

The growth story in the mobile telephony segment continued in June with the GSM operators reporting 32 lakh new subscribers taking the overall tally to 7.85 crore GSM subscribers in the country. There was an overall growth of 4.24 per cent over the subscriber base in May.

Market leader Bharti added 12 lakh new users to take its total user base to 2.30 crore. State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd added only 3 lakh new subscribers due to capacity constraints. The company is still the number two with over 1.80 crore mobile subscribers.

Among all circles, Category C circles continued to witness the highest rate of growth at 5.8 per cent, followed by Category B circles at 4.7 per cent and Category A circles at 4.4 per cent.
