New co to develop applications for telecom subscribers

New Delhi , Aug 1

Telecom gear manufacturer Motorola and IT services company Tech Mahindra on Tuesday announced a joint venture to develop innovative applications for telecom subscribers.

The joint venture company called CanvasM will enable network service providers and enterprises to launch applications such as mobile wallet, m-commerce, entertainment applications and productivity applications.

While Tech Mahindra will bring its experience in applications development and integration capabilities, Motorola will contribute through its application portfolio and service delivery platform.

Logo unveiled

The Communication and IT Minister, Mr Dayanidhi Maran, unveiled the logo of the joint venture. CanvasM will be headquartered in Noida. The joint venture will set up a research and development centre in Noida and Bangalore.

Mr Srikanth Kannankote, Corporate Vice-President, Motorola Networks & Enterprises, said, "CanvasM brings together the significant developer communities from both companies to deliver a new generation of mobile experience to consumers that simultaneously result in operational efficiencies, monetisation, commercialisation and competitiveness for our customers."

Mr C.P. Gurnani, President, international operations of Tech Mahindra, said, " CanvasM will leverage the synergy of capabilities between Tech Mahindra and Motorola to provide cost-effective service delivery through specialised resources that optimise the development processes required to create and manage a mobile ecosystem."
