Advinus drug discovery unit opened in Pune

Advinus Therapeutics, the latest drug discovery facility, catering to the pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries, was inaugurated by Mr Ratan Tata at Hinjewadi in Pune on Thursday. The company has been promoted by the Tata Group with Dr Rashmi Barbhaiya, CEO & Managing Director, Advinus.

Located in the biotech park at Hinjewadi and spread over an area of 20,000 sq ft, the unit will undertake novel drug discovery and generate IP primarily in the areas of metabolic diseases and inflammation. The facility has 55 scientists in various streams initially and has plans to ramp-up over a period of time. It is equipped with latest automated biological testing equipment.

Dr Rashmi Barbhaiya, CEO & Managing Director, Advinus, said it would focus on creating cutting-edge research facilities with an estimated workforce of 550 employees by 2010.
