TCS plans offshore centre in Coimbatore

Our Bureau

Coimbatore , Aug. 17

TCS's first offshore development centre in Coimbatore is expected to come up within six months, according to Mr N. Chandrasekharan, Executive Vice-President and Global Head (Sales).

The company is in the process of identifying land for establishing the facility.

"It is for an international client and in the financial services space," Mr Chandrasekharan said, adding that the company has shortlisted some land to be taken on lease, but no deal has been concluded as yet.

"We have identified the work to be done out of Coimbatore. About a thousand people will be involved in this project. We plan to scale up the headcount in a phased manner, maybe at 500 to start with." The company is looking at one lakh sq ft for setting up this facility, although Mr Chandrasekharan did not rule out the possibility of further expansion.
