New Delhi, Aug. 24

The Union Government on Thursday announced a further Rs 40 per quintal increase in the Minimum Support Price of paddy for the ensuing 2006-07 kharif marketing season.

On July 27, the Cabinet had pegged the MSP for `common' paddy at Rs 580 per quintal and Rs 610 per quintal for `Grade A' varieties. These were Rs 10 per quintal higher than those for the 2005-06 season.

With the latest decision announced by the Agriculture Minister, Mr Sharad Pawar, in the Rajya Sabha, the revised MSP for 2006-07 works out to Rs 620 per quintal for common paddy and Rs 650 per quintal for Grade A varieties.
