Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has embarked on a four-city road show to showcase Singapore as a BTMICE (business travel, meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) destination.
Ms Kang Siew Kheng, Regional Director, South Asia, Middle East and Africa, said that 3.35 lakh Indians visited Singapore this year, an increase of 16 per cent over the previous year. About 35 per cent of these arrivals were in the BTMICE category. In the South, Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad continue to remain the focus markets, she said. STB was keen to increase the number of arrivals in this segment and has launched its "BE (business events) in Singapore" incentive scheme, she said.
STB has identified biomedical sciences, pharmaceuticals, water and environmental technologies, media, engineering, automotive, banking and finance as key areas to create and attract business events to Singapore.
STB is also committing S$170 million drawn out of the S$2 billion Tourism Development Fund to finance the development of business events over the next five years. This incentive will differentiate Singapore's destination offering through event enhancements, business tours and networking opportunities.
