`GDP grew at over 7 pc in Q1'

The country's economy grew at over 7 per cent in the first quarter of the current fiscal, the Union Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, has said.

"Except in Q2 of 2004-05 when the GDP grew by 6.7%, in every other quarter of the last 10 quarters (since 2004-05), including the quarter that will end on September 30, the growth has been over 7%,'' Mr Chidambaram said, at the JRD Tata Memorial Lecture here on Thursday.

The theme of the lecture was `Economic policy making in a coalition era'.

The Finance Minister said that the UPA Government has delivered an over seven per cent economic growth in every quarter barring one.
