Agri-Biz & Commodities - Tea
Coonoor tea flat

P.S. Sundar

Coonoor , Sept. 24

Prices refused to rise at Sale No: 38 of the auctions of the Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) here despite the volume offered being low as the demand was inadequate to absorb the teas at higher bids.

Consequently, most invoices followed last week's trend. Nevertheless, an improvement was seen at the buyers' interest for the brighter liquoring teas, which were priced more than Rs 60 a kg. In many cases, the prices advanced by at least Rs 2, more so, in the leaf category.

Kenya bought some fannings and smaller brokens BP, BOPS etc. which the traders said, might be re-exported to Pakistan. The exporters paid Rs 52-54 a kg.

CIS shippers showed interest in the plainer medium broken teas at Rs 49-52.

On the corporate front, Hindustan Lever Ltd (HLL) supported the good medium varieties. JV Gokal, Girnar and JFK showed some strong enquiry for orthodox leaf.
