Insurance unions call for strike

Our Bureau

Chennai, Oct. 3

Labour unions in public sector general insurance companies have called for a strike on Thursday, to protest the implementation of the arbitrary transfer and mobility policy.

The four public sector general insurance companies (United India Insurance Company, National Insurance Company, Oriental Insurance Company and New India Assurance Company) have issued over 4,000 transfer orders across the country, which include 1,300 outstation transfers, on September 29.

This is the first time that such mass transfers have been issued by insurance companies, according to Mr J. Gurumurthy, Secretary, All-India Insurance Employees' Association.
