Unbundling of KSEB not on: Shinde

Thiruvananthapuram , Oct. 5

The Union Minister for Power, Mr Sushilkumar Shinde, has said the Kerala Sate Electricity Board (KSEB) can improve transmission and also hope to check power theft through its reorganisation.

While wholesale unbundling was not advisable, clearer delineation of varied functions will go a long way to help improve the transmission profile, the Minister said while dedicating the 400 KV Thiruvananthapuram substation set up by the Power Grid Corporation of India.

FEARS ALLAYED

States such as Maharasthra and Andhra Pradesh had reservations about going in for reorganising, but their effort has been more or less vindicated with a steep fall in the incidence of power theft. He also sought to allay apprehensions relating to safety aspects on this count.

The Minister also said that the Centre had plans to invest a princely sum in setting up a high-capacity transmission highway in the State.
