New Delhi , Nov 10 The growth story in manufacturing, electricity generation and mining propelled the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) by 11.4 per cent for September 2006 compared to 7.2 per cent in September 2005, according to revised figures released today. The cumulative growth rate for the first six months of the fiscal stands at 10.9 per cent.Manufacturing recorded 12 per cent growth during the month, against 8.9 per cent last September. The electricity sector grew by 11.3 per cent in September 2006 compared to a drop of 0.8 per cent in the same month last fiscal, while the mining sector improved by 3.9 per cent against drop of 1.9 per cent in September 2005. The cumulative growth in mining, manufacturing and electricity during the first six months stood at 3.1 per cent, 12.1 per cent and 6.6 per cent respectively, the release said. In terms of industry groups, the `beverages, tobacco and related products' group and the `basic metal and alloy industries' group have shown the highest growth of 19.8 per cent, followed by 19.6 per cent in wood and wood products, furniture and fixtures. Non-metallic mineral products grew by 16.7 per cent. On the other hand, the `other manufacturing industries' group saw a drop of 10.9 per cent; jute and other vegetable fibre textiles (except cotton) also dropped, by 0.1 per cent. According to use-based classification, the basic goods sector grew by 11.3 per cent in September, while the capital goods sector improved by 2.2 per cent. The intermediate goods sector recorded 14.7 per cent growth.
