Award for travel co

Thiruvananthapuram , Nov. 16

The Bangalore-based travel company, The Blue Yonder, has won a `highly commended' mention at the First Choice Responsible Travel Awards 2006.

The company, which offers customised holidays in Kerala, was one of the three organisations that won this recognition in the `best for poverty reduction' category.

The award in this category went to an organisation from Kenya.

A multi-stage selection process is followed to select the finalists in each of the 13 categories in the First Choice Responsible Travel Awards, which are a collaboration between online travel company Responsibletravel.com, The Times and Geographic magazine.

Once nominations are received from tourists, each nominee has to fill in a detailed questionnaire and provide references. Independent of the references, opinions are sought from a range of informed individuals relevant to each country.

A list of those under consideration is then forwarded to a panel of expert judges.
