Sandip Das to be Maxis CEO

The high level of competition in the Indian telecom market is now proving to be a hunting ground for foreign companies scouting for managers to run their global business. Mr Sandip Das has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia-based telecom major Maxis Communications Berhad. Mr Das was the Deputy Managing Director of Essar Hutchison's operations in India.

Mr Dato' Jamaludin, Group CEO, Maxis said, "Mr Sandip Das' appointment will add considerable strength and depth to the Malaysian team given his extensive and invaluable experience in successfully navigating what is, arguably, the world's most competitive market. With his background and expertise in India, Mr Sandip will also play a key role in developing strategies for our operations in India, where he will work closely with Mr Jagdish Kini, the recently appointed CEO of .

"As Malaysia CEO, Mr Das will take responsibility for the Malaysian operations to expand Maxis' leadership in the market. seek and realise growth opportunities while strengthening the Malaysian franchise in terms of branding, distribution, network, service excellence and product innovation. All the Malaysian business units and support functions, including the current Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer, will report to Mr Das," said a press release.
