Focus on banking and financial sectors

Chennai , Jan. 5

iSec 2007, a two-day seminar-cum-exhibition on information security, will be held here from August 10.

It is being organised by the Southern India Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) in response to a panel discussion held on this topic in September last.

According to Mr Ar. Rm. Arun, Chairman, Technology Committee, SICCI, the global spend on information security is about $2 trillion and is growing at 25 per cent. However, Indian small and medium businesses have planned to spend only about $134 million on information security this fiscal, he said at a press conference.

iSec 2007 is planned as a platform to address information security issues and create awareness among technology users, he said.

Promoted by the Central and State information technology ministries and the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT), the seminar will focus on topics such as banking and financial security, ISO 27000, Internet security and disaster recovery.

Sharing best practices

Mr C. Umashankar, Managing Director, ELCOT, said iSec 2007 would be a knowledge-sharing platform for companies and government organisations to share best practices. ELCOT would share its information security practices including a `hashing algorithm' currently used for record-ased security.

SICCI is in talks with companies from Taiwan and Israel to participate in the seminar. The event will be co-hosted by CherryTec Solutions and is expected to see about 5,000 participants and 50 stalls displaying devices and software related to information security.
